you've grown into a fine young tree
the pride of the neighbourhood
standing tall, flashing green air
home to all your insect friends
oh how everybody loves the tree
then suddenly one day a piercing pain
an axe chopping through your flesh and blood
you look down, you recognise the face
its the man who nurtured you, caressed you
its the same man who gave birth to you
oh how he loved the tree
one final chop, you lie still, dead
the green fades, the insects leave
but the neighbourhood cheers
they get a better view of the see now
oh how everybody loves the sea...
i heard Farhan Akhtar recite this poem when he was on "Rendezvous with Simi Garewal'... and it haunted me for days... i was lucky to catch the repeat telecast of the episode... i managed to record the poem, and then jot it down... it remains one of my favs till date...
